Direct Support Technician

Indianapolis, IN (On-site) | Full-Time

 

Starting pay: $15.25 an hour! We pay for experience and education!

Damar is seeking individuals who want to work directly with children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or autism. Providing care, supervision, encouragement, and behavioral support while helping clients develop positive social behaviors and reach their full potential.

Schedule

  • Day shift  (7:00 am - 7:30 pm / rotating weekends)
  • Night shift (7:00 pm - 7:30 am / rotating weekends)

(Preferred shift may not be available at time of application.)

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Providing daily care, supervision, and support
  • Helping clients develop daily living, self-help, and social skills
  • Supporting positive social behaviors and interactions
  • Following individual behavior-management plans
  • Responding to and managing crisis situations
  • Helping maintain a safe and healthy environment
  • Leading or supervising recreational and life-enrichment activities
  • Recognizing and responding to safety concerns and emergencies
  • Completing daily documentation in a professional and timely manner
  • Working with other staff to provide consistent, individualized care. 

Qualifications and Skills

 

  • Be at least 21 to work in our Children's Residential program however, we have Direct Support Professional roles for those between 18-21 so we encourage you to apply for the Direct Support Technician role if you are not 21 or over
  • Be able to provide formal proof of a high school diploma or GED
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving)
  • Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal convictions
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen and physical
  • Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening

Essential Job Functions

The essential functions of this position require the physical ability and mobility needed to perform the job. This includes the ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods; occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; lift, carry, push, and/or pull up to 50 lbs.; operate office equipment, including a computer keyboard; travel to other locations using private or commercial transportation; and communicate effectively to exchange information.

 

The position also requires the ability to recognize and respond appropriately to client behaviors, staff instructions, safety concerns, and emergencies in an environment where individuals may display aggressive, self-injurious, sexually maladaptive, elopement, or other unpredictable behaviors.

 

Regular and acceptable attendance, excluding approved absences and periods of leave, is also an essential function of the position.
