About the Damar Internship Program

As a Special Events and Volunteer Intern, you’ll gain hands-on, real-world experience in the field of special events. Our program offers a valuable opportunity for anyone interested in careers in Events, Tourism, Hospitality, Communications, Volunteer Management, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Relations, or Philanthropy. Throughout this fall internship, you will work closely with the entire Damar Communications Team, playing a key role in supporting both internal and external volunteers. You’ll collaborate with a team of highly qualified professionals, gaining exposure to our unique client population and learning the ins and outs of event coordination and volunteer management. This internship is more than just an experience — it’s an opportunity for mentorship, leadership development, and coaching. You’ll have the chance to make a meaningful impact, contribute to the success of our clients, and expand your professional network by connecting with other exceptional interns and practicum students who share your career aspirations.

Remarkable way you will make a difference as an Intern...

  • Consistently arrive to work at scheduled times.
  • Performs duties as assigned.
  • Assist with preparations, along with setup and teardown, for all internal events during the internship including Spirit Week, Fall Festival, Trick or Treating, and Elf Shopping and Wrapping.
  • Assist with event preparation and facilitation for the following external events: Community Client Concert, Damar Cup Golf Outing, the Difference Maker Breakfast, and Sensory Snow Day.
  • Create a welcoming experience for volunteers and support them during activities.
  • Assist with event designs and preparations regarding budgets, décor, event timelines, volunteers, layouts, food and beverage, post event evaluations, etc.
  • Learn how to use volunteer and event management technology (OneCause and VolunteerHub) to support administrative tasks.
  • Assist with preparations for the Damar Gala, as needed.
  • Must be able to work in different office spaces and event venues in the greater Indianapolis area.
  • Provide high-quality hospitality for volunteers and event guests.
  • Write thank you notes for volunteers after events.
  • Maintain a respectful and positive attitude when responding to the needs of others.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What you need to start...

  • High school diploma.
  • At least sophomore standing in college.
  • 1 year of college in a major related to: Events, Tourism, Hospitality, Communications, Volunteer Management, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration, Public Relations, or Philanthrophy.
  • Valid Indiana driver’s license and driving record that meets eligibility requirements of Damar’s insurance carrier (for all positions requiring driving).
  • Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen and physical.
  • Must meet and maintain background screening requirements of program(s) assigned to.
  • No felony convictions or other criminal offenses involving a dependent population.

Essential Job Functions:

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 35lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
