What is a Direct Support Technician?

A Direct Support Professional performs a variety of tasks related to the care of clients served by Damar. 

What would I be doing?

Some duties include client supervision and care, crisis management, promoting appropriate social behaviors, and supporting clients in achieving their maximum potential.

Where would I work with clients?

For this particular role, you could work on our Children's Residential campus located at 6067 Decatur Boulevard in Indianapolis or in one of our Adult Group Homes in the community. 

What are the hours?

  • Weekend (7:00 am - 11:00 pm / Sat & Sun) *Can pick up an optional 8 hour shift Monday-Friday

If offered a position, Damar has all our new employees and returning employees attend a mandatory (paid) two week orientation class that does run Monday-Friday from 9am-5pm.

What you need to be considered...

  • Be at least 21 to work in our Children's Residential program however, we have other Direct Support Technician roles for those between 18-21 so we still encourage you to apply if you are not 21 or over.
  • Be able to provide formal proof of a high school diploma or GED
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical
  • Favorably meet and maintain Damar’s background screening
  • Be clear of any felony convictions, substantiated charges of neglect or other disqualifying criminal offenses

Essential Job Functions:

Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (up to 35lbs); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.

Vision: See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

Hearing: Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
